FIRST VISIT

What to expect during your first visit to Mobility Plus?

Once you arrive for your appointment:

We do not have a front desk receptionist, however, at the front desk, you will find a welcome sign and next to it is a key to the restroom. Restrooms are down the hall by the elevators. Please feel free to help yourself to refreshments and Dr. Li will be out to greet you at the time of your appointment.

  • You will be asked for your insurance card and ID card so we can make a copy of them.
  • Dr. Li will take your temperature and blood pressure.
  • You will then be invited into our consultation room by Dr. Li.

During your first visit, Dr. Li will discuss the following:

  • Your medical history
  • Your current problems/concerns
  • Pain intensity, what aggravates and eases the problem
  • How this is impacting your daily activities
  • Your goals
  • Any medications and other relevant information related to your health

Dr. Li will perform a comprehensive assessment like:

  • Palpation - touching around the area of the pain/problem. This is done to check for the presence of tenderness, swelling, soft tissue integrity, tissue temperature, inflammation, etc.
  • Range of Motion (ROM) - moving the joint(s) to check for the quality of movement and any restrictions.
  • Muscle Testing - checking for strength and the quality of the muscle contraction. Pain and weakness may be noted. Often the muscle strength is graded. This is also part of a neurological screening.
  • Neurological Screening - checking to see how the nerves are communicating with the muscles, sensing touch, pain, vibration, or temperature. Reflexes may be assessed as well.
  • Special Tests - Performing special physical tests to confirm/rule out the presence of additional problems.
  • Functional Assessment - Performing specific full-body movements in order to determine your overall function.

What Do I Need To Bring With Me?

If you have any imaging reports, please make sure you bring them with you (X-ray/MRI/CT). If you have private health insurance, bring your insurance card. If your injury is from an auto accident, please bring all necessary information regarding your claim.

How Should I Dress?

It is best to wear clothing and shoes that are appropriate for exercise. Wear loose fitting clothing so you can expose the area that we will be evaluating and treating. For example, if you have a knee problem, it is best to wear shorts. For a shoulder problem, a tank top is a good choice, and for low back problems, wear a loose fitting shirt and pants, again so we can perform a thorough examination.

How Long Will Each Treatment Last?

Treatment sessions typically last 45 minutes for the initial visit, and 30 minutes for any follow up visits.

How Many Visits Will I Need?

The number of sessions that you will need varies. You may need a small number of visits or you may need a longer period of care depending on multiple factors. You will be evaluated during your first consultation and Dr. Li and Dr. Ashley will give you a plan to completely resolve the underlying cause behind your condition. You will then be re-evaluated on a regular basis to ensure you are on track to getting back to a healthy and happy life!

What Do I Need To Know About Appointments?

Arrive for treatment sessions 5 minutes early to allow enough time to have your vitals taken. Late arrival may affect not only your 1-on-1 time with the doctor, but that of other patients in the clinic. Actively participate in the discussion with Dr. Li and Dr. Ashley to determine your goals and ambitions. Show up for appointments. Failure to show for an appointment and not calling to cancel the visit may result in a fee and is disruptive to the other patients on Dr. Li’s and Dr. Ashley’s schedule.

If an emergency prevents you from attending, try to provide adequate notice. It is important to review the cancellation policy prior to the start of treatment. You will get out of treatment what you put into it. Sufficient effort, as agreed between you and the doctor, is necessary to get maximise benefit from each treatment session.

How Do I Pay?

We require a credit card on file to book your new patient appointment. For any co-payment, or if paying for the full amount out of pocket, you can pay with cash, credit or debit card.

The next step...

Following the assessment, Dr. Li will tell you what the cause of your pain is and how to get you back to a healthy and happy life, free of your pain. A plan is prepared, with you, including how many times you should see Dr. Li, and how many weeks you are likely to need treatment to completely resolve your problem. You will work with Dr. Li to develop a program which includes home exercises, education, short-term/long-term goals, and what is expected after discharge from care.
