About Knee Pain

See a chiropractor for knee pain: Like the hip, knee pain can have causes that aren’t due to underlying disease. Research suggests that thorough clinical examination is generally very good at ruling out various knee pathologies, including internal derangement.

If no red flags for disease are present, we can make the assumption that the knee problem falls into a very broad category of injury. In this case, we ask ourselves:
  • Has there been any damage to the meniscus or cruciate ligaments?
  • Is the knee stable?
  • What is the primary pain generator?
  • Is there joint dysfunction or any soft tissue problems?
  • Are there any other contributing/predisposing factors?

Some common knee problems include:

  • Contusions
  • Dislocations
  • Patellofemoral pain syndrome (jumper’s knee)
  • Chondromalacia (runner’s knee)
  • Quadriceps tendinopathy
  • Osgood Schlatter’s
  • Sprains/strains
  • Symptomatic plica
  • Referral pain from the hip, sacroiliac joint, or lumbar spine
  • Bursitis
  • Stress fractures
  • Meniscus tears
  • Neuropathy
  • Gastrocnemius tendinopathy
  • Baker’s cyst
  • Cruciate ligament tears
  • Sciatica (referred pain)
